Chennai Formula Racing Circuit

India’s first ever night street race was held at the Chennai Formula Racing Circuit, on a 3.8km layout designed by Driven International which hosted the F4 Indian Championship and the Indian Racing League.

About the project

Located at the Island Grounds in Chennai, the track consists of 19 corners and winds its way through the city streets, passing iconic landmarks and crossing the Cooum River.

The opening event for the track was held in September 2024 under the lights, making it the first night street race to ever take place in India. It was a stunning spectacle as the Indian Racing League and F4 Indian Championship cars took to the track to do battle.

Continuing Driven’s strong presence in India

Chennai Formula Racing Circuit is the latest in a number of projects that Driven International have designed and constructed in India. Just 35km away, another Driven-designed circuit recently opened which is India’s first FIA-CIK kart track: the new Madras International Karting Arena.

In 2023 meanwhile, Driven re-engineered the Buddh International Circuit which successfully hosted MotoGP, and earlier that year Driven designed the Hyderabad Street Circuit which was the scene of one of the most exciting Formula E races in the championship’s history.

We’re proud to see Chennai Formula Racing Circuit become our fourth project in 2 years to hit the ground in India.
