Ben Willshire is the founder and Managing Director of Driven International.
With 15 years of international design experience, Ben’s strengths lie in client liaison, business modelling, and setting initial design concepts for the team.
Ben graduated with a BSc Hons degree in Motorsport Technology and Management, and has been working as a professional track and venue designer since 2006. He joined a startup motorsport design business and helped grow the company to a £3 million turn-over, progressing to the role of Managing Director over an 8 year tenure.
In 2014, Ben was appointed as Group Manager of the Engineering Product Testing team at Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). His role provided him with exposure to working at the forefront of the automotive, motorsport and transport testing and research industry in a technical and commercial strategic role. Ben managed a team of 25 staff and helped win new business with 5 F1 teams and automotive businesses.
In 2015, Ben took the opportunity to establish Driven International Ltd, and since inception Driven has grown with new clients, experienced staff and a commercial advisory board and has delivered projects worldwide.
Over his professional career, Ben has held roles as designer, manager and company director at both small and multi-disciplinary firms ranging from £3m – £40m turnover businesses, exposing him to a variety of projects on an international scale.
Ben has led various international motorsport projects over his career with his proudest achievements leading the design and construction monitoring of the Bahrain Kart Circuit and Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone, both of which are fully operational and have received high praise from the client and operators.
Away from his desk, Ben is a successful racing driver with 4 national championships, multiple club titles and superkart lap records at Silverstone and Oulton Park to his name. He is a UK National Superkart champion, British Superkart Racing Club champion, and runner up in the British Superkart Grand Prix. He has also won the coveted UK Cup ‘O’ Plate.
Alan brings over 30 years of international business experience to the Driven team.
He has built and operated highly successful I.T and property businesses across his career. He remains modest, but Alan played a key role in bringing society access to the I.T. that we all enjoy today.
Alan spends his time at Driven advising our team on the strategic growth of the business, implementing sound commercial structures and providing access to new markets through his extensive business contacts.
Ramzi is the Projects Director at Driven and brings 14 years of experience in design and management of motorsport, automotive and industrial system integration projects.
He graduated with a Masters’ Degree in Automotive Engineering in 2007 before spending over 13 years working in both motorsport and industrial design sectors, acting as designer, senior engineer, project manager, and now company director.
Ramzi joined in 2016 as the first recruit to the Driven team and his experience has enabled him to bring innovative solutions and pragmatic oversight to both technical and management related challenges within the business. He oversees the planning and programming of all projects and technical outputs from the Driven studio, and he is a dedicated and approachable director with a passion for precision, driven by projects and change, with a desire to do good things.
With experience in health and safety management under CDM 2007 and 2015, and a technical background in simulations and mathematical modelling, Ramzi has also developed several aspects of the business related to safety planning, such as through track simulations, risk management and venue safety assessments, which are central to Driven’s design approach.
Scot Elkins brings a wide range of expertise to Driven, with over 25 years of experience in the motorsport and automotive industries.
He is currently the Race Director of the FIA Formula E Championship and serves as the Deputy Race Director of the FIA Formula 1, 2 and 3 Championships. Scot is also an FIA Platinum Grade Circuit Inspector.
Previously, Scot was Vice President of Competition for IMSA, where he directed and managed the competitive and technical facets of the historic merger between Grand-Am Road Racing and the American Le Mans Series. Before his career at IMSA, Scot was Technical Director for the Champ Car World Series, where he oversaw the introduction and design of the Panoz DP-01, a new open-wheel chassis for the 2007 season. He has also worked as a race engineer in NASCAR, IndyCar, the Atlantic Championship Series, SCCA, the Skip Barber Race Series, and with UK-based Cosworth Electronics.
Alongside his roles at the FIA, Scot is also the Chief Operating Officer of the Motorsport Safety Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving safety standards in motorsport. He is also currently a member of the SCCA and the Society of Automotive Engineers.
He provides operational, engineering, safety and logistical support for the motorsport and automotive industries, having worked with the Motorsports Safety Foundation, ACCUS, FIA, Formula E, IMSA, IndyCar, The Road to Indy, MOMO Motorsports, Park Place Motorsports, Hardpoint Motorsports, NGT Motorsports, RaceTrack Engineering, and Mazda Motorsports.
Scot graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and he now lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife Lauren and his four children.
With over 20 years experience in events management, brand marketing and public relations, Baba-Jallah Epega brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Driven, serving as our Africa Representative.
Baba attended the Queen Mary University in London, studying Economics (Mathematics and Statistics) and Spanish, and went onto work as a mathematician and banker at Bloomberg TV and Barclays Capital.
Drawing on the skills he acquired during his time there, Baba founded EMC3 in 2000, providing expertise in areas including client entertainment concierge packages, the booking and co-ordination of corporate functions, brand marketing, events and experiences. Their London head office is supported by partner offices in Africa, the Middle East, mainland Europe and the United States. In Africa clients include First City Monument Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Africa Finance Corporation, Vitol Group, Ibru Organisation, Africa Port Services, Control Risks, Afrintel, Yale University & globally other clients include Linked In, Google, Drift, MacQuarie Bank, Falcon Group, NYU Stern & Westfield.
Baba’s experience, expertise and creativity brings a unique perspective to Driven’s process, using a detailed approach to realise bespoke answers that cater to the particular needs of each project.
He has a love for travel, and has featured on various media platforms including CNN, BBC, Arise TV and LA Talk Radio, and he has also been involved in the production of a number of TV documentaries.
RACE DRIVER CONSULTANT
With his wide ranging experience in motorsport, Karun Chandhok is integral to the design of Driven’s new projects, serving as our Race Driver Consultant.
Karun has driven an array of cars on nearly one hundred of the world’s most famous race tracks, and being able to draw on his experience is a valuable tool in Driven’s design process, with Karun offering a unique perspective on the creation of new race tracks, upgrades to existing tracks, as well as automotive driving centres.
His experience of working as an advisor to the Buddh International Circuit on the operations of the F1 Indian Grand Prix, working at the Silverstone Race School and being an advisor to the Madras Motor Race Track is particularly useful when looking at the masterplan layout and operational models for new circuits.
Karun is part of an exclusive club of only two Indian F1 drivers, having raced for Hispania and Lotus in 2010 and 2011 respectively. He has been a member of the FIA Drivers’ Commission since 2013, sitting alongside racing legends including Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi and Tom Kristensen, representing the views and rights of drivers around the world.
During his time racing in the all-electric FIA Formula E Championship, he was also elected by the other drivers as the Driver Representative to work with the Formula E and FIA authorities on a wide variety of subjects including safety, promotional activities, sporting regulations and its future structure.
Karun is a familiar face to motorsport fans, working as a Formula 1 expert analyst and commentator for the BBC, Channel 4 and now for Sky Sports F1. He has also appeared on an array of other motoring programs and continues to indulge in his passion for historic machinery by serving as Williams’ Heritage Driver. In his role, Karun tests and drives their historic cars at demonstrations such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where he has driven legendary cars such up the iconic Hillclimb.
He also conducts an annual charity event, ‘Karun’s Karting Carnival’ in the UK to raise funds for the education of underprivileged children in India through his family run Vishnu Devananda Charitable Trust.
Graham is a RIBA qualified Architect and Urban Designer, holding a Diploma in Architecture and a Masters in Urban Design, from Oxford Brookes and Westminster Universities in England.
He has gained over 10 years industry experience working as an architect for top international design firms, such as Broadway Malyan and KSS. In 2016, Graham established himself as an architectural and urban planning consultant to provide high end residential architectural services to a number of private clients in and around London.
After delivering several successful projects, Graham joined Driven in 2017 and is now our in-house Principal Architect, also heading up our Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality design work.
Graham is an integral part of our design team during site master planning. His skillset and experience enables us to offer architectural designs and site plans from concept, through detailed design and construction phases.
PRINCIPAL CIVIL ENGINEER
Chris is Driven’s Principal Civil Engineer and takes the lead on civil engineering planning and design work.
Chris has been working in Engineering Consultancy since graduating university in 2015 where he obtained a MEng in Civil Engineering. After spending almost 5 years with a large engineering consultancy working across a wide range of sectors, he made the move over to Driven International to enhance our multi-disciplinary architecture and engineering offering.
He has provided advice on civil engineering projects from concept through to construction and has experience from small highway improvements up to nationally significant infrastructure projects. His core skills focus around highways, drainage and earthworks and he maintains a good working knowledge of industry standard modelling software and standards for use on Driven projects.
Jack is the Visualisation Lead at Driven, having joined us in 2016.
When Jack started at Driven, he came from studying Games Development at college completing a Level 3 Extended Diploma. With this, Jack self-taught himself a new way for Driven to develop virtual race track models with a quick turnaround time. This has been extremely valuable to the team because it has enabled them to test their tracks much earlier on in the design process.
Jack also assists Driven’s designers, engineers and architects in creating the required technical drawing outputs for their projects. Jack is proficient in Blender, 3DS Max, Substance Texturing Suite, AutoCAD, Microstation and OpenRoads.
He has also lead the build of Driven’s in-house simulator which is used when developing a new race circuit design, to get a sense of driver feeling and to help identify any possible issues before construction begins.
Jack is responsible for developing the visualisation sector within Driven to continually push the capabilities of the company to new heights, creating increasingly photorealistic renderings, animations and videos.
With his background in architecture and industrial design, and a lifelong passion for motorsports, Sangam joined Driven in 2022 as an Architectural Designer.
After completing his Masters in 2019 at Coventry University, Sangam moved back to his native india to work as a full-time architect for a new race track project. During this period, Sangam worked alongside an FIA Circuits Commission member where he acquired a breadth of knowledge about race track design and safety, whilst progressing his architectural design and visualisation skills.
Sangam now works at Driven as an Architectural Designer, working alongside our Principal Architect and the visualisation team on concept designs, developing visualisations, sketches, masterplans, FIA track design and schematics.
Dimitrios has been working in engineering since 2017, graduating with an MSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Birmingham.
After spending 2 years in pavement lab testing at a research consultancy becoming more familiar with asphalt properties itself, Dimitrios joined a large engineering consultancy firm in 2019. He has worked in a wide range of sectors from small scheme upgrades in the highway network to highly important infrastructure, where he has prepared drawing packages and specifications following guidelines, where he developed CAD and 3D software skills.
Dimitrios has a good knowledge of modelling software which assists Driven in producing high quality deliverables for clients, utilising his background in pavements and highways.
Fred has been working at Driven since 2020 as a Visualisation Technician, having studied Games Development at college.
He works closely alongside the Driven team of designers, engineers and architects to create 3D simulation models of our projects, for both internal testing by Driven and also for use by clients and a wider audience.
Fred is proficient in Blender, Adobe Substance Painter and the wider Adobe suite, which allows him to produce virtual models from scratch along with sets of still renders and videos generated from the models, which are a key promotional tool for many clients as they help to sell the vision of a project.
Since joining Driven, Fred has helped to push the visualisation capabilities of the company to new heights, drawing upon his background in games development and CGI to produce more detailed and immersive models. This covers everything from the main entrance roads to a site, through to the buildings, track details and wider surrounding environments.
Dan started his passion for design and motor racing through online gaming and has successfully turned this into a career at Driven after working for many years as a freelance graphic designer.
He is responsible for the design of race tracks from concept and feasibility through to schematic design, then assisting the team on the final detailed design phases. Dan is still a keen gamer, and he holds an ARDS Licence (Association of Race Driver Schools) which allows him to compete in both the real and virtual worlds.
Dan joined Driven in 2017 and plays a key role on projects, developing new track and site layouts and evolving these designs using his creative flare, whilst meeting the technical requirements of the FIA or FIM using our in-house CAD and track safety simulation software.
Matt is the Communications Lead at Driven, having joined the company in 2018.
With a degree in BA (Hons) Visual Communication from Arts University Bournemouth, Matt is a qualified graphic designer and he brings an expertise in editorial design, typography and visual communication, all with an exceptionally high level of attention to detail.
At Driven, Matt has been able to combine his graphic design expertise with another lifelong passion of motor racing and track design. With that he plays a key role in the initial stages of projects, gathering inputs from the rest of the team on their specialist areas and then producing sketches, design concepts, masterplans and presentations for clients.
He also works alongside some clients to design and produce additional graphic design and marketing material for projects, such as bespoke membership brochures, coffee-table style books, investor presentations and advertising. Matt’s eye for visual communication brings a project to life through these pieces, with coherent design language and visual devices capturing the essence and vision behind it.
Matt is also responsible for developing the Driven brand, looking after the website, brochure, social media and other marketing materials. He also works closely with the directors in client liaison and business development.
