Autódromo Parque de Guaratiba under development in Rio de Janeiro
9 January 2026
Populous, Driven International and WSP are undertaking the technical and conceptual development of a new circuit in Rio, aiming to reposition the city on the international motorsport map and create a new entertainment hub.
The circuit is designed by the appointed world-leading specialist track designers, Driven International, with a 4.71 km layout featuring 11 possible track configurations, enabling it to host a wide range of motorsport competitions, events and driving activities. It has been designed to offer an innovative and challenging layout that promises to attract both drivers and motorsport enthusiasts. Simulations with Formula 1 cars estimate average speeds of approx. 241 km/h and lap times of around 1:09.5.
The project is divided into 5 themed areas, each inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s landscapes; the boardwalk, the mangrove, the Atlantic Forest, the city center, and the city’s iconic avenues.
A consortium of companies are leading the development, led by Populous and working for Genial Investimentos, with initial project management by Rock World. Alongside Populous and Driven, the consortium also includes WSP who are pioneers in infrastructure, transport, environmental and building solutions consulting.
The project already incorporates accessibility resources, environmental compaction measures, and the creation of the Autodrome Park which has public areas integrated around the track layout. According to the project timeline, it will now move onto the required licensing stages with construction expected to begin in 2026.
