CIK-FIA Grade 1 Licence awarded to Madras International Karting Arena
22 April 2025
India officially has its first CIK-FIA Grade 1 kart track, with the formal certification given to the Driven-designed Madras International Karting Arena (MIKA) in April 2025.
The 1.17 km track now joins an exclusive list of karting facilities to hold this license worldwide, and the first in India.
After a specatcular opening ceremony in September 2024, in which the track was opened by Formula 1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen and former Indian F1 drivers Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan, there have been a number of local and national races held in which drivers have been experiencing the track for the first time.
The new CIK-FIA license now enables MIKA to host international competitions, and raises the profile of the track as part of a wider motorsport offering in Chennai, as the track is situated within the premises of the FIA Grade 2 Madras International Circuit.
MIKA was designed by Driven International, with Chennai-born Karun Chandhok advising on the layout, and as well as hosting race events and championships, the track will also help to develop young drivers and promote motorsport further in India.

When we first conceptualised MIKA circuit, the target was to develop an international standard track that can host global competitions besides offering a great platform for racing aspirants as well as a destination for leisure activities for families and corporates.
